Address by the Head of the Chuguiv City Military Administration, Galina Minaeva, on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II

День памяті та перемоги

Dear fellow countrymen!
This year, Ukraine celebrates May 8 for the first time as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II 1939–1945. We have joined the European tradition of celebrating this date.

For Europe, May 8 is a victory over the terrible evil of Nazism, a reminder of the catastrophe of war and that the memory of war should develop the ability to value peace, to categorically and uncompromisingly defend it by all reasonable means.

Ukrainians fully experienced all the horrors of World War II. On May 8, on the Day of Remembrance and Victory, we honor everyone who fought against Nazism, who defended our land in bloody battles, endured the torture of concentration camps, survived the occupation, worked for victory in the rear, and revived Ukraine from ruins.

For the third year in a row, we celebrate this significant date in our history in a state of fierce struggle with the Russian aggressor. Now, as in the years of World War II, Ukraine is at war with the occupier. Today, the Russians encroach on our territorial integrity and try to intimidate the world, while Ukrainians, with weapons in their hands, are fighting the aggressor, defending not only their country, but also all of Europe.

Therefore, honoring the feat of the liberators in World War II and sacredly preserving the memories of the war that touched every Ukrainian family, we, Ukrainians, continue the fight for freedom. Deep respect to the Ukrainian military, volunteers, who are currently defending the integrity and sovereignty of our country, the Ukrainian people from the Russian aggressor.

We bow low to the veterans, defenders of Ukraine, and thank all fighters against Nazism for their patriotism and courage.

Eternal memory to the fallen! Honor and glory to the living Heroes!

Happy Memorial and Victory Day!
