The village of Zarozhne was founded in 1647. The Zarozhne starostat also includes the village of Tetlega, which was founded in 1645.
According to data from 1864, the village had a population of 2,236 people (1,113 males and 1,123 females), 297 households, an Orthodox church, and a brick factory.
