The village of Velyka Babka: the history of its foundation

The village of Velyka Babka existed before 1674, this is recorded in the archival documents of the first census of the Chuguiv Fortress in 1674-1676.

It is believed that the name of the village comes from the tool with which our ancestors - leatherworkers - kneaded animal skins.

In 1856-1866 the village was affected by the peasant reform, the peasants were engaged in agriculture and cattle breeding. The village was also famous for its talented craftsmen: the peasants made various wooden products, wove baskets, as already mentioned above, tanned animal skins and sewed good boots. The women were skilled in weaving.

It is known that in 1895, two factories operated in the village: a brick factory and a silicate factory. Since then, a church and a new school have been built from their own bricks.
