August 29 is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine. This date was not chosen by chance. It was on this day in 2014 that Russian troops shot columns of Ukrainian soldiers while escaping from the encirclement near Ilovaisk. Our soldiers showed heroism and resistance, but suffered heavy losses.
Those tragic events took place in fields of sunflowers that were just ripening. Since then, the sunflower has become a symbol of this day - a symbol of memory of the defenders who gave their lives for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The NGO "Association of Mothers and Wives of Defenders of Ukraine" together with the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance created a social video that emphasizes the importance of honoring the fallen. This is a thematic continuation of the information campaign on the need for a daily moment of silence.
The video reminds us: the war has been going on since 2014, and the life of every fallen soldier is the price of our freedom.
The video was created at the request of the Association of Mothers and Wives of Defenders of Ukraine in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.
