Petro was born on 12/29/1981 in the city of Tayady-Kurgan, Kazakh SSR, into a military family. He studied the first two grades at Tayady-Kurgan secondary school No. 17. In 1989, he moved to Ukraine, lived in the city of Chuguiv, and studied at Chuguiv comprehensive school No. 5 of grades I-III until the fifth grade. There, after a short break, he finished the eighth grade.
After graduating from school, he studied first at the Luhansk Military Lyceum with enhanced military-physical training, and then at the Chernihiv Military Lyceum. After the 2nd year of study, he was forced to leave due to health reasons and subsequently studied at the Chuguiv Vocational and Technical School No. 53, majoring in accounting. For some time, he studied at the Kharkiv Economic Institute.
He began his career as an accountant in the 203rd training aviation brigade in the city of Chuguiv. For three years (2017-2019) he served under a contract in the 92nd separate mechanized brigade. He participated in the ATO/JFO. After being discharged to the reserve in civilian life, he continued to work in the private sector.
In January 2023, he was called up for mobilization by the Chuguiv RTCC and SP. He served in the 23rd separate mechanized brigade as a driver-electrician of the radio station of the radio platoon of the communications company of the rear point of the field communications node of the brigade. After completing tasks in the areas of Chasovy Yar and Toretsk, the main forces of the brigade were transferred to the Kurakhiv sector to contain a large-scale offensive of Russian troops. Thus, from November 2024, the brigade began to defend the country in the Kurakhiv direction. The soldiers resisted significantly superior enemy forces at that time, slowing down his advance.
Circumstances of death:
The family's last contact with Petr Ukolov was on October 31, 2024. He reported that he would be gone for several days. The family waited a long time for a phone call from Petr, but around November 10, 2024, the mother received a call from the brigade and was informed that Petr Ukolov had not returned from a combat mission and was considered missing. As it later became known, he was seconded to the operational subordination of the commander of the 1st Rifle Company of the 121st Separate Territorial Defense Battalion. From the written explanations of the servicemen, it became known that a group of servicemen, which included soldier Ukolov P.M., was performing a combat mission on November 4, 2024 near the settlement of Maksymivka, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region. At approximately 03:00, the enemy carried out a massive attack with drones on our firing position "MATSUR". Directly in the trench where soldier Ukolov P.M. was, an explosion of an unknown explosive device dropped from an enemy drone occurred, then the detonation of ammunition began. Petro Ukolov received a wound incompatible with life and died on the spot. Due to the intensity of the fighting, it was impossible to evacuate Petro's body from the position.
The official notification that Petro Ukolov is considered missing No. 6/12745 was received by the family on 12.11.2024. He was considered missing for over a year. In September 2025, the Bogorodchanskyi District Court of Ivano-Frankivsk region, based on the study of available evidence and a long-term missing person, declared Ukolov P.M. a deceased person while defending the Fatherland. Then, for over six months, an appeal against this decision was considered. Only on April 01, 2026, Ukolov P.M. was officially recognized as deceased while defending the Fatherland.
His body was not returned, and therefore his burial place is unknown.
The deceased defender is survived by his mother and brother.
