Ivan was born on March 28, 1992 in the urban-type settlement of Chkalovsk (now Prolisne) of the Chuguiv district of the Kharkiv region. In 2007, he graduated from a secondary school of grades I-III in the village of Chkalovsk. After graduating from Chuguiv vocational school No. 53 in 2010, he received the profession of an electric and gas welder. He has lived in the city of Chuguiv since 2010. During 2011-2012, he performed military service as part of the 113th Proskuriv twice Red Banner Signal Brigade (now the 1st separate field Proskuriv communications node) and participated in the military exercises "Adequate Response-2011". After returning to civilian life, his work was associated with LLC "APK Agroservice" and LLC "Ukrpromdetal".
He got married in January 2017, and his son was born in July 2017.
On 07/29/2016, he voluntarily signed a military contract with the command of the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade through the Chuguiv Regional Military District and Joint Venture. Participant in the ATO/JFO. After the end of the military contract, Ivan worked for several months at Agro Synergy LLC. And then he again decided to continue his service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2019, he again signed a military contract with the command of the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade.
In the first days of the full-scale war, the 92nd Motorized Rifle Brigade played a key role in containing the enemy on the approaches to Kharkiv and preventing the city from being surrounded. Ivan Stoyan, as a gunner-operator of the BTR-4E "Bucephalus", together with his comrades, participated in covering the state border, destroying the advanced columns that were marching "parade march", and successfully setting fire to enemy armored vehicles. Later, Ivan Stoyan participated in counteroffensive operations near Kharkiv, in the liberation of the territory of the Kharkiv region.
Already during the full-scale war in November 2022, he completed training under the combined basic-level sergeant (officer) training course program as part of Operation INTERFLEX (Great Britain) and received the military rank of junior sergeant.
In March 2023, he, together with his comrades, being the commander of the 1st mechanized detachment - the commander of the vehicle of the 3rd mechanized platoon of the 5th mechanized company of the 2nd mechanized battalion, was transferred to Bakhmut. The western suburb of Bakhmut, the settlement of Khromovo, became the hottest point of the battle in the spring of 2023. The brigade's soldiers performed tasks in this area to maintain the logistics corridor and prevent the complete encirclement of our defenders.
Circumstances of death:
Junior Sergeant Stoyan Ivan 07.04.2023 as part of the 5th mechanized company of the brigade participated in combat operations with the enemy in a difficult combat situation that took place at that time in the company's area of responsibility. The detachment commanded by Ivan Stoyan was performing a combat mission to defend a designated line in the area of the settlement of Khromovo, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region. From the story of a comrade who was in the position with him and was captured, it became known that during the battle their positions were hit by an enemy strike with artillery and guided aerial bombs. Ivan Stoyan received a shrapnel wound in the neck, incompatible with life. The body of the deceased commander remained on the battlefield.
The measures taken by the military unit to clarify the whereabouts of Junior Sergeant Stoyan I.V. did not yield positive results. Official notification No. 22 stating that Ivan Stoyan was considered missing was received by the family on April 18, 2023.
He was considered missing for more than three years. In November 2025, the Chuguiv City Court, based on circumstantial evidence and a long-term missing person, declared Stoyan I.V. a deceased person. Then, an appeal against this decision was considered for more than six months. Only on May 26, 2026, Ivan Stoyan was officially recognized as dead. His body has not been returned, and therefore the place of his burial is unknown.
The deceased defender is survived by his mother, wife, and minor son.
During his military service, Ivan Stoyan was repeatedly encouraged. He had several awards for participation in the ATO/JFO: On January 31, 2019, by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 26/2019, he was awarded the Medal "Defender of the Fatherland", the Order of the President of Ukraine "For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation" and had the award of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Participant in the ATO", and was also awarded the honorary breastplate of the Chief of the General Staff Breastplate "For Exemplary Service" of the III degree. On April 6, 2022, by his Decree No. 216/2022, the President of Ukraine awarded Ivan Stoyan the Order "For Courage" of the III degree.
