The Chuhuiv community honored the memory of the Defenders of Ukraine and the victims of captivity

Група людей стоїть у ряд на відкритому повітрі, тримаючи в руках червоні троянди та сині стрічки, ймовірно, під час урочистості вшанування пам'яті.

Today, July 28, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, participants in volunteer formations, as well as civilians who were executed, tortured, or died in captivity.

This memorable date was established to honor the courage and sacrifice of Ukrainian servicemen, volunteers, and civilians who became victims of Russian aggression. July 28 was chosen not by chance - on the night of July 28-29, 2022, the Russian occupiers committed a terrorist act on the territory of the former Volnovakha correctional colony near Olenivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war, mainly defenders of Mariupol, were held. As a result of this crime, more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war died, and dozens more were injured. This day has become a symbol of memory of all Ukrainian Defenders, volunteers, and civilians who were executed, tortured, or died in enemy captivity.

On the occasion of the memorable date, an event was held in the Chuguiv community to honor the fallen. The participants of the ceremony laid flowers at the memorial sign in the Defenders of the Fatherland Square, honoring the bright memory of all who gave their lives for the freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as those who became victims of cruelty and crimes during the Russian aggression.

The event was attended by the leadership of the Chuguiv City Military Administration and the Chuguiv City Council. Those present bowed their heads in a moment of silence, paying tribute to the indomitability of the Ukrainian Defenders, members of volunteer formations, and civilians who died, were tortured, or died in captivity.

We remember everyone. Eternal glory to the Heroes and eternal memory to all whose lives were cut short by war...
