The head of the Chuguivsk REM Andriy Semenov answers questions from residents of the Chuguivsk community regarding power outages.
We all know that the main reason for power outages in our homes is Russian shelling of Ukraine's power system. But people are wondering why the outages affect the same consumers and bypass others. Andriy Semenov explains:
– Power outages are taking place according to the schedule that Ukrenergo provides to us. The Chuhuyiv community belongs to the 4th group, and this week, planned outages will occur from 9:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Next week, the schedule will change so that the same communities do not constantly feel the burden of outages in the dark and other inconveniences. As for the disconnections of subscribers in the community itself, they are carried out taking into account the preservation of the stability of the operation of socially important and infrastructure facilities.
That is, we turn off the lights in such a way that the hospital, most boiler rooms, sewage treatment plants, etc. are not affected by the shutdown. I understand all the inconvenience that residents are currently suffering from, but energy professionals have no other choice: currently, the Kharkiv region does not have its own energy generating capacity, and in fact, we receive electricity from other regions.
Some residents complain that it is inappropriate to turn on street lights when half the city is without electricity... Comment by Andriy Semenov:
– I want to note right away that the electricity savings from turning off street lighting are so insignificant that they are not even considered by energy experts. And if you consider the safety factor, such «savings» can be quite expensive – remember the recent high-profile road accidents in which pedestrians were injured due to poor visibility.
