Secondhand smoke and nicotine emissions can be just as harmful as active smoking. This even applies to pets – their health is at risk too!
Recently, Ukraine has taken confident and important steps to protect the health of the population from tobacco smoke. The government and active civil society are actively working to strengthen anti-tobacco legislation. Today in the country:
- Advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products, tobacco heating devices and e-cigarette liquids are prohibited
- The sale of flavored cigarettes and e-cigarette liquids is prohibited. From July 11, 2024, flavored cigarettes, roll-your-own tobacco, e-cigarettes, and liquids with flavoring additives should have disappeared from store shelves.
- Attractive cigarette pack labels have disappeared. Cigarette packs have a combined medical warning: on 65% of the area there is an image of diseases caused by smoking and text warning about the harm and consequences of smoking. For people who want to get rid of addiction, a QR code is placed on the pack - a link to the free service of the Public Health Center "I'm quitting smoking!"“ stopsmoking.org.ua.
All of these changes are aimed at ensuring that fewer people fall for the hook of tobacco corporations and choose a life without tobacco and nicotine.
Each of us has the right to clean air.
