According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, Ukraine is experiencing a significant deterioration in air quality due to dust from the Caspian region.
The situation will last until Friday, October 4. Fine dust settles in Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Luhansk regions. A small amount also falls on the territory of Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions.
Dust is entering Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and northern Vinnytsia regions along with smoke spreading from outside Ukraine from the northeast. Air quality in these regions, as well as in Chernihiv and Sumy regions, may deteriorate due to the movement of carbon monoxide with smoke.
The Public Health Center reminds you how to protect yourself in conditions of air pollution:
- Do not go outside unless absolutely necessary;
- Close windows and doors, seal openings with available tools (tape, damp cloth);
- Turn off ventilation systems that draw air from outside;
- Turn on an air purifier or air conditioning system with air filtration — if available;
- Use a respirator or protective mask when outdoors. If they are not available, cover your mouth and nose with a damp cloth;
- Carry out wet cleaning at home and in workplaces;
- Place water-filled containers with a large surface area to further humidify the air in the room;
- Take a shower several times a day;
- Drink water. For adults, the norm is 2-3 liters per day. It is also worth drinking mineral alkaline water to restore lost salts and trace elements.
