These moving words from Ruslan's first teacher comprehensively characterize him as a Man with a capital letter, a warrior who died defending our land: «It’s quite unusual to see a gray-haired young man in a photo, realizing that this is the little Ruslan who came to me in the 1st grade. A boy with amazingly beautiful big brown eyes, serious, economical, gallant, fair, our Rusik… It so happened that before the war he often called me, told me about his life, sometimes even asked for advice. I know how Ruslan loved his sister, respected his mother, valued his family, he, a person with a vulnerable soul, was open and sincere. I remember I was very happy when Ruslan told me that there, in the war, he had "found the love of his life." He was so happy! He was... It's very scary to talk about him in the past tense. Eternal and bright memory to you, Ruslan!"«

The soldier is survived by his father, Varanitsa Yakov Ivanovich, who lives in the village of Velyka Babka; his mother, Larynishina Valentyna Ivanivna, who lives in the city of Kharkiv; his sisters, Varanitsa Mariana and Lavrynishina Antonina; his common-law wife, Lysak Viktoriya Vitaliyevna, and his daughter, Voloshchuk Nika, born in 2007, who live in the city of Kharkiv. His daughter was not his own, but he became a father to her. Here is how Nika remembers his father:

«"For me, he became more than just a father. He became a person who taught me how to be strong, how to overcome difficulties and always remain true to my principles. Ruslan was the first person I turned to for advice, and he always supported me in my endeavors. He was always proud of me, and I am proud to have had such a father in my life.".

And here's what his sister Mariana says about him: «"My brother was a very cheerful and bright person, and he was also very talkative. As a child, we quarreled, like all children, he would break my dolls, tease me, but when someone offended me, he would always defend me, no matter what. Of course, when we grew up, we were very close friends, supporting each other. I always taught him, despite the fact that he was older. He always called me if something happened to him. When he went to war, I was very worried about him and my whole family too, but I knew that he was still protecting me, and not only me. I was very proud of my older brother. He has always been and will be my Hero.".
