Ukraine has a ban on the import of food products of animal origin from regions that are unfavorable for foot-and-mouth disease, the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection reports.

Food products of animal origin are a potential factor in the transmission of FMD. There are currently restrictions on imports from Hungary and Slovakia to Ukraine (in these countries cases of FMD have recently been recorded).

The State Food and Consumer Protection Service of Ukraine urges citizens not to carry food products of animal origin from these countries in their hand luggage to prevent the foot-and-mouth disease virus from entering the territory of our country.

We remind you that foot-and-mouth disease is a viral disease that leads to the death of livestock of domestic ungulates. People can also get foot-and-mouth disease. Ukraine is currently free of foot-and-mouth disease, but it is recorded in neighboring countries.
