For reference.

A kitten by the entrance. A kind dog in the park. A little fox in the forest.

All of this may make you want to pet the animal. But it is precisely these situations that sometimes cause rabies infection.

Rabies is one of the most dangerous diseases common to humans and animals. Once symptoms have appeared, the disease is incurable. However, it can be prevented.

Remember: danger does not always look aggressive.

A sick animal may:

▪️to be too affectionate;

▪️approach people without fear;

▪️appear lethargic or disoriented;

▪️to behave unusually.

That is why it is important to teach children simple rules:

✔️do not pet unfamiliar animals;

✔️do not approach stray dogs and cats;

✔️do not touch wild or dead animals;

✔️Tell adults about bites or scratches right away.

If an animal has bitten or scratched you:

🔹wash the wound with soap and water for 15 minutes;

🔹consult a doctor immediately;

🔹Report the case to veterinary specialists.

Vaccination of pets is the best protection.

The State Service for Food and Consumer Protection reminds you: vaccination of dogs and cats against rabies in state veterinary hospitals is free of charge. To get vaccinated, simply contact the state veterinary institution in your region.

Together with the European project EU4SaferFood, we have prepared a special infographic in comic book format.

Show it to your child and talk about simple safety rules. Sometimes one conversation can save your health and even your life.
