In early January 2026, Russian troops carried out massive offensive and assault operations in the Pokrovsk direction. The occupiers made several dozen attempts every day to push our defenders out of the occupied positions in the areas of the settlements of Shakhove, Nykanorivka (Zapovedne), Rodynske, Myrnograd, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske and towards Novopavlivka. The defense forces restrained the enemy's onslaught towards the settlements of Kucheriv Yar, Bilytske, Hryshyne, Novopidhorodne, Muravka, Novopavlivka, Ivanivka. The area of the villages of Nykanorivka (Zapovedne), Volodymyrivka and around the city of Rodynske regularly appeared in reports as an area where the Defense Forces restrained and repelled enemy attacks. The battles in the area of the village of Nykanorivka (Zapovedne) were in the nature of exhausting positional clashes with constant artillery fire and an extremely high density of drone use. Individual positions around the settlement periodically changed hands as a result of mutual counterattacks.

Circumstances of death:

On 04.01.2026, the detachment commanded by Andriy Korniyenko was performing a combat mission under the operational subordination of the 4th operational battalion of the 4th operational brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, known as "Border". On this day, the brigade conducted rotational operations. During their conduct, an FPV drone strike was carried out on the positions where Andriy Korniyenko's detachment was located. Communication and visual contact with Andriy were lost. At that time, it was not possible to conduct search operations due to constant enemy artillery shelling and FPV drone strikes.

As it later became known, Andriy suffered a serious wound incompatible with life while performing a combat mission. Thus, from January 4, 2026, Andriy was registered as missing, and on January 14, 2026, his relatives received a notification under No. 398.

For almost 4 months, the family waited for news from Andriy, hoping to hear and see him. Unfortunately, their expectations were interrupted on 07.05.2026, when the wife received a notification under number 469 that Junior Sergeant Kornienko Andriy Dmytrovych died while performing a combat mission on 04.01.2026 at about 21.30 near the settlement of Bilytske, Pokrovsky district, Donetsk region.

Andriy Kornienko will forever be 41. He is survived by his wife and two children: son Volodymyr, born in 2012, and daughter Anna, born in 2014.

On May 8, 2026, Andriy Kornienko was buried at the cemetery in the village of Kochetok next to his parents and brother with full military honors under the volleys of the guard of honor. The farewell ceremony for our countryman was attended by relatives and friends, representatives of the clergy, representatives of the city council, fellow citizens, and residents of the village of Kochetok, who came to share the grief and support the soldier's relatives.
