Circumstances of death:
Sergey Borisovich last contacted his relatives on November 15, 2024. On the same day, he left for positions located directly near the front line, where communication was not maintained. According to his comrades: on the morning of November 20, 2024, an enemy assault on the positions of our fighters with a landing took place. Sergey Borisovich KORNEYCHUK was at the post and directly took on close combat, during which he received injuries incompatible with life. His comrades received injuries and contusions. Due to the fact that the territory where the battle took place was under Russian occupation, the evacuation of the body was impossible. On November 3, 2024, his relatives received a message from the Chuguyiv RTCC and SP No. 6/13493 that Sergey KORNEYCHUK was considered missing since November 20, 2024.

All the time, family, friends and loved ones hoped for a miracle. But on May 7, 2026, the family was informed that
The results of genetic examination identified the body of KORNEICHUK Serhiy Borisovich, who died on November 20, 2024, while repelling an enemy assault near the settlement of Novodonetske. The body was transferred to our side during the exchange in 2025.

Junior Sergeant KORNEYCHUK Sergey Borisovich returned "on the shield" to his native village and was buried on May 19, 2026 in the cemetery of the village of Kochetok near the grave of his parents. He is survived by his wife and daughter, sister and nephews. Farewell to Sergey took place in the premises of the Chuguyevo-Babchansky Forestry Vocational College. A large number of residents of the village came to pay their respects to the hero and see him off on his last journey through the living corridor.
Many warm and kind words are expressed by relatives, friends and fellow countrymen about Sergey Borisovich: «Sergey was a friendly and sincere person. He always came to the aid of anyone who needed it. His wife jokingly called him an «ambulance». People always turned to him for support and consolation. He always put the interests of others above his own. Sergey was principled and honest. The universe rests on people like him. He did not try to be «convenient» for his superiors. He was simply fair and demanded justice from everyone. Cars were a real passion in his life. While behind the wheel, Sergey was one with the car. Therefore, over more than 40 years of driving experience, almost every day going out on the highway, Sergey skillfully avoided emergency situations. He always taught young drivers the intricacies of driving a car, taught them to be polite to other road users. Next to Serhiy, when he was driving, you could be sure that no "adventures" would happen under any circumstances." As the young "brother" Yevhen recalled: "In any difficult situation, under fire, he and the guys were always sure that if Sedoy appeared in the distance in his truck, everything would be fine, everyone would be alive and well!".

Since childhood, Serhiy was fond of hunting and fishing (especially winter). Perhaps that is why he chose hunting science as his second specialty. He loved animals very much. He treated wild animals with care, fed them in harsh winters. It was interesting for him to observe their lives. He adored pets. While in positions, in the trenches, dogs and cats always lived near them, which he and his comrades took care of. There were also always pets in his family home. He brought two dogs home from shelling. They became a real joy for the family. They always waited for Serhiy to visit, their joy knew no bounds.
Serhiy had a lot of friends. He was always the soul of the campaign. He somehow immediately knew how to attract people to himself. Behind the stern appearance was a sincere heart and a kind soul. He adored his daughter and was proud of her. He treated his wife with great respect and care. For all the time that Serhiy was away from home, there were only a few days when he did not get in touch with her. For technical reasons. The loss of Serhiy for his family, for his loved ones and friends is an unhealed wound, it is daily pain and sadness. The memory of him will always live in their hearts!
In August 2023, KORNEICHUK Serhiy Borisovich, at the suggestion of the battalion commander, was awarded the Badge of National Honor - the medal "FOR COURAGE".
