Born on 06/29/1972 in Rubizhne, Luhansk region. There he graduated from high school and vocational school with a degree in driver. He was orphaned at the age of 13. Roman began his career as a driver at the Rubizhne Production Association "Krasitel".
In December 1990, he was called up for active military service by the Rubizhansk-Kreminsky United City Military Commissariat to military unit 1470 of the Eastern Regional Directorate, a territorial body of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. He served as a senior driver. After being discharged to the reserve, his work was carried out at manufacturing enterprises in the Luhansk region as a driver and mechanic. Then, for a long time (from 1994 to 2016), he worked in the units of the State Security Service Department under the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Luhansk region (as a security guard and a collector).
In 2017, he moved to the city of Chuguiv and lived in the Aviator neighborhood. In April of the same year, he signed a contract with the 22nd Territorial Defense Battalion and participated in the ATO in the Donetsk and Luhansk directions. After the contract expired, in October 2017, he was discharged. Later, he signed a contract with the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade and took an active part in the ATO/JFO. He served as part of the brigade's artillery unit. For his participation in the defense of Kharkiv, he was awarded the medal "For Military Service to Ukraine.".

His parents died when he was 13. His brothers live outside of Ukraine.
Wife: Minovska Lyubov Volodymyrivna, lives in the city of Chuguev.
Son: Deryagin Danylo Romanovich, born in 2000 (his fate is unknown).
Daughter: Deryagina Anna Romanivna, born in 2009, lives with her mother outside the city of Chuguiv.
Circumstances of death:
09.09.2022 Roman was performing a combat mission as a gun commander of the 2nd self-propelled artillery platoon of the 2nd self-propelled artillery battery of the 1st artillery division of the brigade artillery group. The unit had the task of inflicting fire damage on the enemy during the breakthrough of the first line of defense. The unit in which Roman was performing a combat mission was hit by an enemy kamikaze drone "Shahed-136". Roman received an explosive injury incompatible with life. His body was taken to the morgue of the Shevchenko Central Military District of the Kharkiv region, and later to Chuguev.
