Rescuers remind that winter water bodies can be dangerous, especially during temperature drops when the ice does not have time to form to a safe thickness. To avoid accidents, it is important to follow basic rules:
You can only go out on the ice in persistently frosty weather.
Ice that is at least 7 cm thick for one person and 15 cm for a group of people is considered safe.
Under no circumstances should you test the strength of the ice with your foot - only with a stick.
Avoid areas covered with a thick layer of snow: the ice is always thinner under the snow.
When going out onto the ice, you should always have rescue equipment with you: a rope, a long stick, or another object that will help in case of danger.
If cracks appear on the ice, return to shore. Don't run: walk slowly, keeping your feet on the ice.
