For several days, animal welfare volunteers from two charitable organizations – the Ukrainian "12 Watchmen" and the German Tiernothilfe – vaccinated and sterilized homeless animals in Chuhuiv free of charge.
Among the many problems of Ukrainian communities exacerbated by the Russian invasion, one of the most painful is the rapid increase in the number of stray animals. On the one hand, municipalities are pressured by animal protection legislation, which was significantly tightened on the eve of the war, and on the other, the number of former pets abandoned by their owners who left the city has increased significantly. As a result, the streets of Chuguiv are dominated by packs of dogs, not all of which, unfortunately, are distinguished by their peace-loving nature.
In this difficult situation, the help of animal protection volunteers is invaluable for our community, says Galina Minaeva, head of the Chuguiv City Military Administration, who wrote in her Telegram channel:
– Today I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to two charitable organizations at once – the Ukrainian «12 Watchmen» and the German Tiernothilfe. During their three days of work in Chuguiv, their volunteers vaccinated and sterilized more than two hundred homeless cats and dogs. We were happy to welcome the animal rights activists into the community: we helped them with their resettlement and work space. I hope that our cooperation will not end there, and eventually Chuguiv will become a city where people and animals will live together in a civilized and peaceful manner.
And I express special gratitude to my friend of the Chuguiv community, Deputy Head of the Kharkiv Regional Council, Valeria Dzyubi, for the opportunity to meet wonderful people who, at the call of their hearts, work in the charitable organizations "12 Watchmen" and Tiernothilfe.
