Born on April 11, 1977 in the city of Chuguiv. In 1992, after receiving incomplete secondary education at Chuguiv comprehensive school No. 5, he continued his studies at Chuguiv vocational school No. 19. After graduating in 1995, he obtained the profession of a turner and worked for some time at the Chuguiv fuel equipment plant.
He worked at LLC "Company "SESA", private enterprise "Osnova", at the Municipal Enterprise "Chuguyiv Communal Complex" as a loader at the "Sanochistka" section, but most of his work is related to work in the private sector. In his free time from work, he was engaged in fishing, was very interested in the ancient poetic pastime "Burime".
Due to health reasons, he did not perform military service. On 02.05.2025, he was called up for mobilization by the Chuguiv RTCC and SP of the Kharkiv region and sent to perform military service in the 92nd separate assault brigade named after the Kosh Ataman Ivan Sirko as an assistant rifleman-grenade launcher of the 1st assault detachment of the 3rd assault platoon of the 13th assault company of the 5th assault battalion.
In early December 2025, after one of the Ukrainian units left its positions, units of the 92nd separate assault brigade named after the Kosh Ataman Ivan Sirko were sent to save the situation where the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions converge. They also included the unit where Oleksandr Sapelkin served. At that time, the Oleksandrivsky direction, according to operational information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was one of the hottest. Only on January 10, 2026, the enemy carried out 14 attacks in the direction of the settlements of Oleksiivka, Sosnivka, Vyshneve.
Circumstances of death:
On January 10, 2026, the unit where Oleksandr Sapelkin served was performing a combat mission in the area of the settlement of Oleksiyivka, Sinelnikovskyi district, Dnipropetrovsk region. Ukrainian defenders held back the enemy's intense onslaught, repelling several attacks in the direction of Oleksiyivka. The positions of our defenders and the approaches to them were hit by FABs and drones. On that day, a grenade launcher with his assistant rifleman Oleksandr Sapelkin was sent to help the comrades who were repelling the enemy attacks. During their movement to combat positions, they were hit by two drones. One of them hit Oleksandr. Initially, Oleksandr's body was not taken from the scene of death due to the intensity of the shelling, and therefore on January 12, 2026, a notification was sent to his mother as a missing person. After some time, the mother was invited to come to the Dnipropetrovsk region to identify the remains of the deceased defender. As a result, it became known that the remains belonged to Oleksandr Sapelkin.
At the end of January 2026, Alexander's body was delivered to the city of Chuguiv, and on January 28, 2026, he was buried on the Alley of Memory in his hometown with full military honors.
The defender is survived by his mother, a younger brother who defends the Motherland, and a daughter.
