Alexey Chubukin was born on 01.06.1983 in the village of Kochetok. There he graduated from 9 grades of secondary school in 1998 and immediately went to work. In 2001, he began his work at the Donets Water Supply and Sewage Works (Production Department of the Water Supply and Sewage Works).
In 2002, he was drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine for military service. After returning from military service, he continued to work at various private and municipal enterprises in the village of Kochetok, the city of Chuguiv, and the city of Kharkiv.
In 2010, he returned to the Donets Water Treatment Complex and worked there until the end of his short life. His last position at the Donets Water Treatment Complex was as a chlorination plant operator.
In 2015, Oleksiy was mobilized directly from the enterprise, without being fired from his job, and participated in the ATO for over a year. He served in the 16th separate infantry battalion, which was part of the 58th separate motorized infantry brigade. After completing his service, he returned to his old place of work.
The full-scale war did not leave him aside. Despite the fact that he had reservations from mobilization, in June 2022 he voluntarily went to defend the Motherland. He served as part of the 66th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Mstislav the Brave - as a grenade launcher of a mechanized battalion.
Circumstances of death (compiled on the basis of the official report of the detachment commander, Sergeant HRYTSYUK O.M., to his commander)
Since August 15, 2022, he has been considered missing in the area of the settlement of Maryinka, Pokrovsky district, Donetsk region.
On March 19, 2024, the Ukrainian side repatriated the remains of 59 soldiers who died in connection with the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territories. As it became known later, after conducting a forensic molecular genetic examination at the Kirovograd Regional Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination, the body of Chubukin Oleksiy Oleksiyovych was among these remains of the deceased.
Based on the story of the senior combat medic of the 2nd battalion of the 4th company of the 66th separate brigade, who was in a group of fighters that fought on August 15, 2022 near the settlement of Novomykhailivka and was forcibly taken prisoner, the detachment commander, Sergeant Hrytsyuk O.M., reported in writing to the immediate commander about the circumstances of the death of soldier Chubukin O.O.:
«I hereby report that on August 14, 2022, near the village of Novomykhailivka, Pokrovsky district, Donetsk region, I, HRYTSYUK Orest Mykhailovych, sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, at the time of the events described below, the senior combat medic of the 2nd battalion of the 4th company of the 66th separate brigade A7014, witnessed the heroic act of soldier CHUBUKIN Oleksiy Oleksiyovych.
Private CHUBUKIN O.O. was the only one who arrived to reinforce my unit, which was fighting with superior enemy forces (9 Ukrainian servicemen against 28 invaders). The group I was in was forcibly taken prisoner due to the fact that the ammunition was exhausted in battle, three were wounded, including me. At the time when Private CHUBUKIN O.O. arrived, I and the members of my group were actually already in captivity with tied hands. The enemy set the conditions for Private CHUBUKIN O.O. to drop his weapon, kneel down and raise his hands, which he did, but at the last moment Private CHUBUKIN O.O. raised his AK-74 assault rifle with a sharp movement, stood up and with accurate fire destroyed one invader.
Understanding the consequences of his actions, soldier CHUBUKIN O.O. nevertheless made an attempt, if not to free my captured unit, then to destroy the enemy at the cost of his own life.
I ask you to honor soldier CHUBUKIN Alexey Alekseevich, who gave his life for the liberation of his brothers from captivity and his native land from the invaders, with the state award of the Star of the Hero of Ukraine posthumously.
The enemy showed respect for soldier CHUBUKIN O.O. and his deed and allowed me to bury him in the same place where he was killed, now that territory is temporarily occupied.".
Almost three years after his death on the shield, the defender – Chubukin Alexey Alekseyovich – returned to his small homeland. On July 2, 2025, the village of Kochetok welcomed the funeral cortege of the fallen defender with a living corridor. The Hero’s funeral, farewell and burial of Alexey took place at the village cemetery on July 2, 2025. Alexey was buried next to his parents, who died without ever learning about the fate of their son.
Alexey is survived by his wife, a son born in 2008, and two brothers.
