
On March 10, 1865, the work of composer Verbytsky to the words of the poet Chubynsky "Ukraine is not dead yet" was performed publicly for the first time.
The National Anthem of Ukraine dates back to 1862, when poet Pavlo Chubynsky wrote the poem «Ukraine Has Not Died.» Later, composer Mykhailo Verbytskyi composed music for it, and the song quickly gained popularity among Ukrainians.
First performance and official recognition:
- On March 10, 1865, in Przemyśl, Poland, the work was first publicly performed by a choir.
- On January 15, 1992, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the musical version of the anthem.
- On March 6, 2003, a law was passed that officially enshrined the words and music of the National Anthem of Ukraine.
- On December 7, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to annually celebrate March 10 as the Day of the National Anthem of Ukraine.
Today, the National Anthem of Ukraine remains not only a musical symbol, but also an expression of national identity, indomitability, and the desire for freedom.
