Today, Ukraine commemorates the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and the mass artificial famines of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947.
The Holodomor is a national tragedy, a crime of genocide against the Ukrainian people, and a crime against humanity. It is one of the most tragic pages of our history, reminding us of the dangers of totalitarianism, cruelty, and indifference to human lives.
This year, for the third year in a row, we honor the victims of Stalin's genocide in the context of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. As then, the enemy seeks to break our people, deprive us of the right to be masters of our own land, and destroy our identity.
On the day of remembrance of the victims of the Holodomor, let us bow our heads in deep mourning and remember all the innocent victims of artificial famines. I call on you, dear compatriots, to honor the victims with a minute of silence and light a candle of remembrance in your homes. May this light be a sign of our grief, our indomitability, faith in the victory of Ukraine and our readiness to make efforts so that genocides do not happen again.
