Foot and mouth disease on commercial farms
Foot-and-mouth disease is a viral disease common to humans and animals that leads to the culling of entire livestock. Ukraine is currently free of foot-and-mouth disease, but it is recorded in neighboring countries.
To avoid infection of livestock with foot-and-mouth disease, all farms must adhere to a closed operating regime.
Closed operation of a commercial farm is a reliable method of protecting livestock from a number of infectious diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease. After all, an animal can become infected with foot-and-mouth disease from another wild or domestic animal (a 30-day quarantine is required for newly purchased livestock).
The foot-and-mouth disease virus can also be transmitted through feed, equipment, transport, on the shoes and clothing of personnel, and even be carried by the wind.
The infographic, jointly created with the European project EU4SaferFood, clearly depicts all possible ways of becoming infected with foot-and-mouth disease.

How to protect livestock from foot-and-mouth disease during transportation?
During the movement of animals, it is also important to take all measures to avoid animal contact that could lead to infection with the foot-and-mouth disease virus.
The infographic, jointly produced with the European project EU4SaferFood, clearly shows possible ways of infection with the foot-and-mouth disease virus during the transportation of livestock.
If you suspect the presence of a disease in domestic animals, you must immediately notify the territorial body of the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection.
