Maternity and childhood protection is one of the priority areas of the Medical Guarantees Program.
Therefore, regardless of their place of residence and registration, pregnant and postpartum women can count on receiving high-quality free pregnancy management services and medical care during childbirth.
Where should an expectant mother turn to regarding pregnancy management?
For pregnancy monitoring, you can choose any municipal or private medical institution that has an agreement with the National Health Insurance Fund for the "Outpatient Pregnancy Management" package.
Pregnancy management by an obstetrician-gynecologist is free of charge both when you apply for it yourself without a referral and when you have a referral from your family doctor or attending physician.
Within the framework of the "Outpatient Pregnancy Management" package, the patient receives the following types of services:
- dynamic monitoring of the course of pregnancy
- conducting necessary laboratory tests: from a detailed blood test to tests for viruses and perinatal infections
- conducting instrumental examinations: Doppler ultrasound, transvaginal ultrasound cervicometry, colposcopy, cardiotocography, electrocardiography, etc.
- conducting prenatal screening
- prevention of Rh sensitization by administering anti-Rh D immunoglobulin
- referral to a perinatal (if signs of anomalies, congenital, hereditary pathology are detected in the fetus) or multidisciplinary (if the patient is identified as having a high risk of pregnancy) consultation
- post-exposure prophylaxis of sexually transmitted infections in cases of gender-based violence
- providing complete information about the course of pregnancy, the features of the individual plan for pregnancy and childbirth
- providing information to the patient regarding conditions in which medical care should be sought, perinatal care facilities in which a woman, depending on her health and the condition of the fetus, is recommended to give birth, etc.
If the patient requires hospitalization, the gynecologist sends her to a hospital, where she will receive all the necessary medical care, also free of charge, as part of the inpatient package.
Medical assistance during childbirth is free of charge, regardless of place of residence.
Neither the place of registration nor the actual place of residence is a basis for payment for medical care. In institutions that have an agreement with the National Health Service of Ukraine, medical care during childbirth is free of charge, its cost is paid by the National Health Service of Ukraine. Therefore, patients with IDP status do not have to pay anything extra for receiving medical care, including during childbirth.
Medical assistance during childbirth is provided free of charge both when delivered by an emergency medical team (ambulance) and when self-referred without a referral.
During childbirth, the patient in labor receives all necessary medications, medical products, anesthesia, and laboratory tests free of charge:
- medical assistance during childbirth with an obstetric team on duty
- partnered birth
- management of uncomplicated and complicated births
- performing an urgent or scheduled cesarean section
- monitoring the condition of the mother and fetus
- use of painkillers: analgesics, epidural or spinal analgesia, etc.
- Anesthesia support for surgical interventions and obstetric procedures
- laboratory and instrumental research 24/7
- consultation by doctors of other specialties;
- conducting post-exposure ART prophylaxis for children born to HIV-positive mothers
- conducting a number of newborn screenings (serological testing for HIV and syphilis, critical congenital heart defects and other diseases under the expanded newborn screening program)
- hearing assessment in newborns;
- Vaccination of the infant according to the preventive vaccination calendar
- counseling on breastfeeding and postpartum contraception;
- ensuring the organization of the provision of a comprehensive electronic service «E-baby»;
- nutrition in a hospital setting, etc.
If you are wrongfully asked to pay for the cost of pregnancy or childbirth monitoring, file a complaint with the National Health Insurance Fund. The operator of the contact center at 16-77 will tell you how to do this.
How to find a medical facility contracted with the National Health Insurance Fund
1. Call the National Health Insurance Contact Center at 16-77. Choose to connect with the operator and ask where the nearest facilities are that provide assistance with pregnancy management or childbirth.
2. Find institutions with an agreement with the National Health Insurance Fund yourself using the online map on the dashboard «Concluded agreements on medical care for the population under the medical guarantees program». To search, you need to use the «Service group» filter, where you can select the package «35. Outpatient pregnancy management» or «7. Medical assistance during childbirth», and also specify the desired settlement. The map will display medical institutions with telephone numbers and addresses that match the entered filters. Therefore, pregnancy support and medical care during childbirth are services that are paid for by the National Health Service of Ukraine within the framework of the Medical Guarantees Program.
