At the invitation of their teacher, plein air participant Olesya Rybchenko, along with famous and already well-known Ukrainian artists, the event was also attended by those who are just beginning their creative journey – first-year students of the Department of Digital Art of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design.
The organizers of the plein air invited young people to look at Ilya Efimovich Repin and his paintings in a new way and consider how these canvases might look if the artist painted them in modern times. This creative experiment yielded unexpected but very interesting results, which are presented at a separate exhibition of the XXIV International Repin Plein Air entitled «Repin: Distant Close». Young artists created homages – works that imitate the works of our outstanding compatriot.
Ilya Repin often addressed social and political themes that were relevant to his time. The project participants explore how these themes can be translated into the context of current problems and challenges. The artist was also known for his ability to convey deep emotions through painting. The works presented at the exhibition show how modern youth use the same techniques, but in new forms and contexts. This exhibition is excellent proof that even after 180 years, Repin has not lost his relevance and continues to inspire creative and imaginative experiments!
