The Affordable Medicines program will be expanded in 2025. UAH 6.6 billion has been allocated in the budget for this, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported.
The updated program will include more than 30 new active substances, including combination drugs for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, as well as rheumatological, neurological, eye and endocrinological diseases, such as hypothyroidism and migraine.
At least 500 thousand Ukrainians will be able to save money on treatment.
For the first time, medications for children will be available, as well as medications in the form of drops and ointments.
The expansion of the program is taking place with the support of the President of Ukraine within the framework of the government initiative "Winter Support".
The initiative is aimed at improving not only financial but also territorial accessibility. Residents of villages, frontline and remote areas can receive medicines through Ukrposhta or at mobile pharmacy points.
The Affordable Medicines reimbursement program allows Ukrainians to receive medications for the most common chronic diseases free of charge or with a partial co-payment. It has more than doubled in size in five years and continues to operate during martial law.
In total, almost 5 million Ukrainians used it.
Currently, the program includes 589 trade names of medicines and medical devices, including 208 that are completely free of charge.
The "Affordable Medicines" program includes:
- 241 remedies for cardiovascular diseases;
- 110 remedies for mental and behavioral disorders, epilepsy;
- 31 remedies for chronic respiratory diseases;
- 7 drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's disease;
- 55 drugs for patients with type 2 diabetes;
- 4 remedies for diabetes insipidus;
- 63 trade names of insulin preparations;
- 45 medical devices for self-monitoring of blood sugar levels;
- 25 remedies for people in the post-transplant period;
- 8 remedies for pain management and palliative care.
