
Road Safety Weeks in Ukraine, held twice a year, are one of the largest information and educational platforms for drawing public attention to the problems of road traffic injuries in the country. The weeks aim to consolidate the efforts of state bodies, departments, structures, interested public and media to develop joint solutions and address this problem.
Road traffic injuries, according to WHO, are one of the world's biggest health problems. More than a thousand people are injured or maimed every day. The risk of dying from road traffic accidents varies from country to country, but 701% of deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
Every year, according to various statistics, Ukraine loses more than 3 thousand of its citizens in road accidents, more than 30 thousand are injured. The main causes of road accidents with fatalities and injuries: exceeding the safe and established speed limit; violation of maneuvering rules; violation of intersection rules; violation of pedestrian crossing rules; failure to maintain a safe distance.
