The Children's Service of the Executive Committee of the Chuguiv City Council talks about family forms of placement of children left without parental care (adoption, guardianship/trust, foster families, DBST).
Children who have lost their parents, or whose parents, due to various circumstances, cannot fulfill their duties, need family warmth and upbringing.
In Ukraine, there are the following family forms of placement of orphans and children deprived of parental care:
Adoption – is the adoption of a person into the family by an adoptive parent as a daughter or son, which is carried out on the basis of a court decision.
Guardianship and care – placement of orphans and children deprived of parental care in the families of citizens of Ukraine who are mainly in family, kinship relations with these children in order to ensure their upbringing, education, development, and protection of their rights and interests.
Guardianship is established over a child who has not reached the age of fourteen, and guardianship is established over a child aged 14 to 18.
Foster family – is a family or an unmarried person who voluntarily took from institutions for orphans and children deprived of parental care, from 1 to 4 children for upbringing and joint residence. Those who took children into a foster family are foster parents, and the adopted children are foster children. Children stay in a foster family until they reach the age of 18, and in the case of continuing education – until the age of 23 or until graduation.
Family-type orphanage – a separate family, created at the request of a spouse or an individual who is not married, who take in for upbringing and joint residence at least 5 orphans and children deprived of parental care. The total number of children in a family-type orphanage should not exceed 10 people, including relatives. Children stay in a family-type orphanage until they reach the age of 18, and in the case of continuing education – until the age of 23 or until graduation.
