According to the Safety Rules for Gas Supply Systems, owners/co-owners/managers of buildings must ensure that smoke and ventilation ducts (SVD) in their dwellings are inspected. Since the SVD inspection service is not a monopoly, the homeowner has the right to choose the contractor for the work independently. The selected contractor must have a conclusion from the State Energy Supervision Agency regarding the possibility of carrying out such work.
The Kharkiv branch of Gazmerezh does not provide PEC inspection services and does not affect the work of stove makers.
Stove fitters inspecting chimneys are not authorized to turn off the gas on their own.
If, based on the results of the inspection of the chimneys, the stove fitters establish their unsuitability, the inspection report is submitted by the stove fitters to the Kharkiv branch of Gazmerezh for temporary cessation of gas supply to the house until the owner and the stove fitters eliminate the malfunctions in the operation of the PEC.
In the event of faulty chimneys, as confirmed by an inspection report, gas workers are required to stop the gas supply, as this situation puts people at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The work that stove-makers must perform during the periodic inspection of chimneys and ventilation ducts is determined by the Rules for the Technical Operation of Gas Supply Systems. In particular, the following is checked:
- channel patency (absence of clogging and presence of draft);
- the presence of devices and equipment near the PEC heads that interfere with proper air exchange;
- the serviceability and correct location of the chimney cap;
- absence of soot and resin on internal surfaces.
