In the Kharkiv region, the BPD provision system announced a competitive selection of mediators: applications are accepted until November 5

The competitive selection of mediators to be engaged by free legal aid centers has begun. Applications can be submitted until November 5. About this report at the Legal Aid Coordination Center.

Mediators will be engaged to resolve conflicts between victims and juvenile suspects accused of committing a criminal offense under the state Restorative Justice Program involving juvenile suspects accused of committing a criminal offense.

Who can participate in the selection?

Specialists who have higher education and have undergone appropriate training:

  • before the entry into force of the Law of Ukraine "On Mediation" (hereinafter referred to as the Law) have undergone training in basic mediator (mediation) skills for at least 48 hours, as confirmed by relevant certificates
  • or have completed basic mediator training conducted by an educational entity under a program with a volume (duration) of at least 90 hours of training, including at least 45 hours of practical training, which includes theoretical training and development of practical skills, and, after confirming the acquired competencies, have received a certificate of basic mediator training.

How to participate in the competition

  • Carefully study advertisement (simplified instructions)
  • By November 5, submit an application for participation and other documents via form
  • From November 7 to 14, take the distance learning course "Functioning of the Free Legal Aid System" and successfully pass the tests
  • From November 25 to December 5, undergo an individual interview

The results of the competition will be published by December 23 on the website BPD provision systems.

What will mediators do?

Mediators who pass the competitive selection will be included in the Register of mediators engaged by free legal aid centers and will be able to conclude an agreement with the free legal aid center to provide mediation services.

Mediators will be engaged in providing mediation services to resolve a conflict between a victim and a juvenile suspect accused of committing a criminal offense under the state Restorative Justice Program with the Participation of Juveniles Who Are Suspects Accused of Committing a Criminal Offense (order Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Prosecutor General's Office dated July 22, 2024 No. 2176/5/501/176).

Mediators included in the Register will be involved in providing mediation services in other categories of conflicts (disputes) after the relevant regulatory legal acts are adopted.

Payment for services

The mediator's remuneration is paid from the State Budget of Ukraine in accordance with In order payment for mediation services to mediators engaged by centers for the provision of free legal aid, approved by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated January 19, 2024 No. 63.
