The railway is a zone of increased danger. Due to carelessness and disregard for the rules of conduct on railway transport, the level of non-industrial injuries (injuries to bystanders who were on the railway facilities) increases every year.
In the first three months of 2025, 70 citizens were injured on the tracks at the branches of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia", 46 of them were fatal (9 people were electrocuted, 5 were fatal).
Since the beginning of the year, 6 children under the age of 16 have been injured, 4 of them fatally, including 4 children injured due to electric shock, 2 of them fatally. During the same period in 2024, 1 child under the age of 16 was injured.
An analysis of cases of injury to bystanders on railway transport shows that most incidents occurred as a result of the victims' violation of the Rules for the Safety of Citizens on Railway Transport of Ukraine, approved by order of the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine dated February 19, 1998 No. 54, namely:
- crossing railway tracks in unspecified places;
- walking on railroad tracks;
- boarding and disembarking while the train is running;
- being in a state of alcoholic intoxication on the territory of railway transport facilities.
Remember that the railway is a zone of increased danger, and of two types: being hit by rolling stock and being electrocuted by high voltage. Being in the railway zone can be deadly, especially for children. However, despite the existing rules, some children have fun on the railway tracks, cling to the auto couplers and footboards of the cars, look for fun, and expose themselves to danger in order to post an extreme photo on social networks.
Parents should not leave children unattended, be indifferent to the place they choose for games and walks. Follow the rules of personal safety when crossing railway tracks and being near them. Teach your children to do this!
