Ruslan Sen, head of the Department of Counteracting Cybercrime of the Kharkiv Region of the Cyberpolice Department of the National Emergency Situations of Ukraine, spoke about the main cyber threats and how to protect yourself from them during a briefing.
«"One of these phishing attacks, the most significant for the majority of the population, uses images of children and asks to vote in support of their participation in competitions, and thus, mainly in Telegram, they gain access to the accounts of victims who are trying to leave their vote. Then the attacker gains direct access to the accounts of victims who are trying to leave their vote as if in some kind of payment form," notes Ruslan Sen.
The police warn that if you receive a message asking you to vote for something, borrow money, etc., check the reliability of the information from other sources.
To protect yourself from cyberattacks, you should not ignore the following rules:
- use strong passwords;
- update all programs regularly;
- Avoid opening emails and attachments from untrusted or unknown sources, as they may contain malware.;
- use two-factor authentication;
- Protect your network: install firewalls and other network protection tools to prevent unauthorized access;
- Avoid visiting questionable or untrustworthy websites that may contain malware or phishing links.;
- maintain the hygiene of your devices, lock them when you are finished. Use applications only from official services. Do not use unfamiliar WI-FI
- join the “BRAMA” project ( https://t.me/+FVp2IctBvfBiODY6 ) and stand up to the enemy's propaganda together with thousands of Ukrainians.
Another common phenomenon during wartime that police warn about is cyber espionage.
Most often, information leaks occur through messengers.
To prevent the enemy from using any information for their own purposes, you should not transmit important official and personal information via messengers, especially Telegram.
Using Yandex and Vkontakte is prohibited.
At the same time, the cyber police are asking all Internet users to distinguish fake from true information by checking it in other sources.
After all, the purpose of disinformation from the Russians is to sow chaos and panic among the civilian population.
