On February 10, employees of the Chuhuyiv Regional Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region conducted a raid on the Siverskyi Donets River to remind citizens of the rules of safe behavior while fishing and staying on water bodies in winter.

Employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine conducted briefings with fishermen on preventing accidents on the water in winter, and also demonstrated the basic rules that must be followed while on the ice:

  • before stepping on the ice, make sure it is thick enough;
  • You can only go out onto the ice in persistent frosty weather and when the ice thickness is at least 7 cm;
  • Strong ice usually has a bluish or greenish tint, weaker ice is white and yellowish;
  • near bushes, reeds, in places where algae have frozen into ice, it may be thin or brittle;
  • it is necessary to avoid areas covered with a thick layer of snow, since the ice is always thinner under the snow;
  • You need to bring a stick with you to check the strength of the ice.

Dear citizens! Going out onto the ice is always a risk! Be careful, do not put yourself in danger! Protect your life and the lives of your loved ones.
