Address by the Head of the Chuguiv City Military Administration, Galina Minaeva, on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the birth of Ilya Repin

РЕПІН LEGACY

Dear fellow countrymen!

On August 5, we celebrate a significant date in the life of our city and our community – the 180th anniversary of the birth of our world-famous countryman, artist Ilya Efimovich Repin. These August days are also rich in other anniversary dates in the cultural life of Chuguev – the I. Yu. Repin Art Memorial Museum began its work 55 years ago, and the Art Gallery has been happily opening its doors to visitors for 40 years.

Thanks to Repin's name, our city became known throughout the world as the birthplace of a talented artist. Chuguiv held a special place in the artist's life - it was here that he was captivated by his immense love for painting, here his first canvases came out from under his brush, and from here his path to national recognition began.

Despite the war, we in the Chuguiv community had no right to ignore this important date, because it is a matter of honor for us to celebrate the anniversary of Ilya Yukhymovych. Even during World War II, in 1944, the people of Chuguiv found an opportunity to honor Repin's centennial at a worthy level. Infinite gratitude to our defenders - it is thanks to them that we have the opportunity to hold cultural events in our community today.

Today, the name of the great master obliges all of us, residents of the Chuguev community, to take care of the cultural and historical heritage of the city, develop artistic traditions, and take care of the preservation of historical monuments associated with I.Yu. Repin. I express my sincere gratitude to all employees and veterans of the museum sphere, local history enthusiasts, and residents of the community who preserve for posterity the spiritual and material values associated with the name of Repin. We are proud of our priceless cultural heritage and our famous fellow countryman Ilya Repin!

Head of the Chuguiv City Military Administration Galina Minaeva.
