In early February, the Chuguiv District Police Department received a report from a 59-year-old local resident that unknown persons had broken into her apartment and stolen her personal belongings.
As police investigators found out, the attackers carefully prepared for the crime and monitored the apartment. When they were sure that the owners were not there and there were no obstacles, they picked up the keys to the front door and entered the house. The attackers stole 700 US dollars, 32 thousand hryvnias, jewelry and other things.
After conducting a series of operational measures and investigative actions, the attackers were exposed by operatives of the Chuhuiv District Police Department together with the criminal investigation officers of the Main Police Department of the Kharkiv Region, with the force support of the special police regiment.
The perpetrators acted in three acts. The criminal group was formed by a 42-year-old local resident, previously convicted of robbery and crimes related to illegal drug trafficking. His accomplices were a 32-year-old local resident, previously convicted of drug crimes, and a 29-year-old man, who had already come to the attention of law enforcement for illegal handling of weapons.
During authorized searches of the perpetrators' residences, law enforcement officers seized lockpicks, some of the stolen money, and the victim's belongings.
Currently, the perpetrators have been detained and are in custody. The men have been notified of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 185 (theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 8 years.
Law enforcement officers are investigating the suspects' involvement in similar crimes in the area.
