In early February, the Chuguiv District Police Department received a report from a resident of the village of Kochetok. She told about the visit of an unknown man who called himself a gas service specialist. He offered the woman to check the gas equipment. He wanted to receive 400 hryvnias for his work. The woman found this suspicious, she refused and immediately called the police.
Police officers quickly located and detained the attacker. He was wearing special gas service worker clothing and receipt forms.
According to the results of the pre-trial investigation, it was established that a 51-year-old man was involved in thirty-two episodes of fraud under a similar scenario. The attacker, posing as a gas service specialist, promised to check gas, furnace equipment and ventilation systems. For this, he charged citizens 400 hryvnias. To avoid suspicion, the man wrote out a fake receipt for payment for his services. The man spent the money received in this way on his own needs. In total, the attacker embezzled 12,800 hryvnias.
Investigators from the Chuguiv District Police Department informed the man of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 190 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a maximum penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to three years.
On April 15, police investigators completed the pre-trial investigation and sent the criminal case materials with the indictment to the court for consideration of the merits of the case.
