The incident was reported to the Chuguiv District Police Department on March 18. The victim said that the day before, an unknown woman called her, introduced herself as a police officer, and said that her daughter had hit a minor child with her car. In order not to hold the «culprit of the accident» accountable, the attacker said that she needed money. After the phone conversation, the elderly woman transferred 119 thousand hryvnias to the scammers’ account. Only later did she learn that her relative was fine, and that she had been scammed.

If you receive such a call, first of all, do not panic and do not rush to fulfill the conditions of the scammers. Ask the person who introduced himself as a police officer to give the last name, first name, patronymic and date of birth of the detained relative. In almost one hundred percent of cases, criminals do not have this information. Also, specify which police department your relative is in. Try to call back as soon as possible the person who "needs immediate help" or the people who can be nearby at that moment and confirm or deny what happened.
