Officers of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine spoke about how to effectively counteract modern manifestations of cybercrime during a briefing at the Official Media Center.
According to Lyudmila Fedorova, head of the Cybercrime Countermeasures Department in Kharkiv Oblast of the Cyberpolice Department of the National Emergency Situations of Ukraine, today every Ukrainian has the opportunity to join the fight against the occupiers and counteract false information and hostile propaganda on the Internet. It is for this purpose that a joint project of the Cyberpolice and volunteers, «Gate,» was created.
«"This project allows each subscriber not only to learn about the legality of a particular Internet resource, but also to gain knowledge, improve their level of cyber hygiene, and participate in test tasks. At the same time, community members can really help law enforcement officers destroy centers of hostile propaganda and those sources that provide an opportunity to commit illegal actions: fraud, distribution of prohibited content, or to resist bullying and distribution of drugs," noted Lyudmila Fedorova.
In order to check the questionable information, the project participant must provide it to law enforcement officers on the Telegram bot "Brama". The police cyber center will process the provided information 24/7. For example, volunteers have already sent approximately 140 thousand links for verification. Thanks to such activities of citizens, law enforcement officers block illegal resources and identify specific individuals who are involved in their administration.
Cyber police officers note that participating in the project does not require spending a lot of resources; it is enough to devote 10-15 minutes of free time and perform certain tasks to search for and block questionable content.
Similarly, the inspector of the cybercrime countermeasures department in the Kharkiv region of the Cyber Police Department of the National Emergency Situations of Ukraine, Oleksandr Zagumenny, emphasized that another important direction of the aforementioned project is combating online fraudsters.
«"Currently, criminals are actively taking over the Internet space to use new phishing schemes there. The most popular crime on the Internet remains fraud, since people's inattention, ignorance, and frivolity often allow thieves to achieve the desired result," noted Oleksandr Zagumenny.
Therefore, first of all, you need to be careful with online payments and providing personal data. At the slightest suspicion of dubious accounts, you should report them to the police, in particular, this can be done via Telegram bot "Gate".
