On May 28, the police received a report of a robbery attack on a 76-year-old resident of the city of Chuguiv. According to preliminary information, the attacker entered the victim's apartment, threatened her with a knife, and took possession of her property.
The attacker pushed the victim into the apartment, punched her in the face, and, threatening her with a knife, openly took possession of her property. The attacker tore off the chain with the amulet from the woman's neck, took her earrings and mobile phone, and then fled.
During the operational-search activities, officers of the Chuguiv District Police Department identified a person who, according to the description, matched the characteristics of the attacker. During the attempted detention, the man tried to escape, threatened police officers with a knife, used a gas canister, and offered physical resistance.
The offender then attempted to attack the police officers with a knife. Despite repeated legal demands to stop the unlawful actions and warnings about the possible use of a service firearm, the man continued his aggressive behavior and attempted to leave the scene.
In this regard, in accordance with Clause 6, Part 4, Article 46 of the Law of Ukraine "On the National Police", one of the police officers used a service firearm in order to stop the unlawful actions and detain the armed offender.
After the arrest, the man was provided with first aid and an emergency medical team was called. In addition, three police officers were injured as a result of the attacker's unlawful actions.
Based on the above facts, criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 4 of Article 187 (robbery) and Part 2 of Article 345 (threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
