April 8 is International Roma Day, a date established in 1971 during the World Roma Congress in London. It was then that the national symbols of the Roma people — the flag and anthem — were defined, and their identity as a separate nation was affirmed.

This day is important to remember the historical trials that the Roma people have endured, to pay tribute to their resilience and desire to preserve their identity. At the same time, it is an opportunity to once again emphasize the need to consolidate the efforts of the state, the public, and international partners to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all.
