The Mission Kharkiv charity provides psychological support to vulnerable categories of citizens

Mission Kharkiv is one of the largest medical charities in Ukraine in terms of the volume of assistance provided. One of the key areas of work is systemic support for adult patients with cancer.

Since 2022, the organization has been implementing large-scale programs to supply medicines, transport and evacuate patients, provide first aid, provide hygiene kits, and also provide psychosocial support to beneficiaries and strengthen the capacity of medical personnel.

Mission Kharkiv Mental Health Service provides psychological support to people living with cancer, healthcare professionals and other vulnerable populations. The activities are implemented within the framework of the project "Ukraine Cancer Relief: Safe Passage for Care" with the support of Direct Relief and include free online groups and individual psychological consultations.

Target categories of the program:

  • healthcare professionals;
  • people living with a cancer diagnosis;
  • people with chronic (non-palliative) diseases;
  • relatives and friends of cancer patients;
  • volunteers who accompany cancer patients;
  • internally displaced persons (IDPs);
  • families who are waiting;
  • families of veterans.

Psychological support format:

  • online groups of up to 10 participants on the Google Meet platform;
  • The duration of each session is 2 hours;
  • the work of certified psychologists and psychotherapists with experience in supporting seriously ill people and working with traumatic conditions;
  • use of evidence-based approaches: positive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Gestalt, and others;
  • online individual consultations – as needed.

Participation in the program allows you to:

  • reduce the level of anxiety and emotional stress;
  • receive psycho-emotional support during treatment or during remission;
  • support medical workers in working under high workload conditions;
  • provide practical tools for self-help and maintaining quality of life;
  • to strengthen the adaptation and restoration of psychological resources of military families, veterans and IDPs.

Participation in the program is completely free, anonymous and confidential.
