The summer fire season is in full swing. August is one of the most dangerous months, as the hot sun turns grass and other vegetation into flammable deadwood.
According to the requirements of the legislation, there is a strict ban on burning dry grass and reeds, but the rescue service number “101” receives many reports of burning dry grass in the Kharkiv region every day. Some of them occur due to hostilities, shelling, but mostly these are actions of citizens who are trying to clean up their land plots and adjacent territories by burning dry grass. Often this ends in a fire.
During dryland fires, residents independently try to prevent the spread of the flame and often get burns, and sometimes everything ends tragically. Thus, in the village of Krasnokutsk, Bogodukhovsky district, a fire occurred, as a result of which an 87-year-old woman died, and a 77-year-old woman received burns while trying to extinguish the fire on her own. The fire broke out on August 11 in an open area, dry grass burned on an area of about 500 sq. m.
Remember: burning dry grass can cause a large-scale fire at the enterprise, residential buildings, outbuildings, roughage for livestock, etc. can burn down. As a result of burning the remains of dry grass, weeds, and garbage, emergency outages of overhead power lines occur.
The main cause of fires is the careless handling of fire by citizens. It is human negligence that leads to fires that cause damage to the ecosystem, and dry and hot weather contributes to the rapid spread of fire.
The Fire Safety and Civil Protection Service of JSC “Kharkivoblenergo” appeals to citizens with a warning about using open fire to burn dry grass and garbage. Do not allow children to play with matches and lighters. Remember: an unattended bonfire, especially in windy weather, can lead to a fire, and most importantly, it poses a threat to people's lives and health.
