Periodicity of inspection of chimneys and ventilation ducts in houses

The Rules for the Technical Operation of Gas Supply Systems and the Rules for the Safety of Gas Supply Systems determine the following frequency of chimney inspections:

  • Chimneys of heating furnaces, gas water heaters and heating boilers that operate seasonally are inspected at least once a year (before the start of the heating season);
  • Chimneys of equipment that operates year-round are inspected twice a year;
  • Ventilation ducts are inspected at the same time as chimneys. If there are no chimneys in the house, ventilation ducts are inspected once a year.

What to look for when checking chimneys:
  1. The organization performing the work of inspecting smoke and ventilation ducts is chosen by the owner of the house, his co-owners, or the management company.
  2. The organization inspecting chimneys must have a conclusion from the State Energy Supervision Agency regarding the possibility of carrying out such work. The homeowner has the right to make sure that the selected chimney sweeps have the necessary permits.
  3. Stove workers do not have the right to turn off the gas. The gas is turned off by the GRM Operator in the event that the stove workers detect faulty and unusable smoke and ventilation ducts in the house and receive a corresponding certificate from the stove workers.
  4. The list of works that must be performed during periodic inspections of chimneys and ventilation ducts is determined by the Rules for the Technical Operation of Gas Supply Systems.
