Why is this interesting?

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), observed annually on 31 May, is a global initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO). Its aim is to draw attention to the dangers of tobacco use and promote effective measures to protect public health.

In 2025, WHO and global public health leaders will unite under the campaign slogan «Exposing the Illusion of Appeal: Exposing Tobacco Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products» to expose industry strategies and call for stronger regulation to protect youth and prevent addiction.

During the event, WHO and partners will present data on tobacco and nicotine product use for the first time, as well as compare results with previous years. The discussion will focus on the impact of regulatory measures taken to combat tobacco and nicotine use since the ratification of the WHO FCTC in 2006. Speakers will pay particular attention to the problem of nicotine product use among young people and expose the marketing tactics of the tobacco industry.

For reference. In 2024, WHO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (MOH) and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MES), completed data collection and cleaning for the fourth round of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) as part of national tobacco monitoring initiatives.
