On April 8, 2021, he was called up by the Chuguiv RTCC and SP for military service and sent to the 78th separate airborne assault regiment. Immediately after the end of his military service, he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Thus, while serving under the contract, Vadim met the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.

Vadim Bychkov, together with his comrades, participated in the defense of Kyiv, operations in the Zaporizhia and Kherson directions. In the fall of 2024, Vadim was transferred to the 28th separate mechanized brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign to the position of rifleman - assistant grenade launcher of the 1st mechanized detachment of the 3rd mechanized platoon of the 5th mechanized company of the 2nd mechanized battalion.

Vadim is survived by his mother, two younger brothers, and three sisters.

Circumstances of death:

In March 2025, the unit where Vadym Bychkov served was performing a combat mission near the settlement of Ozaryanivka, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region. According to his comrades, while in the forward positions in the Torets direction, the unit was constantly under enemy fire. On March 21, 2025, during another enemy attack, Vadym received an explosive injury incompatible with life. For several days, Vadym's body, like the bodies of his deceased comrades, could not be evacuated, and therefore the family was notified that their son and brother were considered missing. But the hope that Vadym managed to survive did not last long. On March 31, 2025, his mother received a message about the death of her son.

Vadym Bychkov was buried with full military honors on April 4, 2025 at the local cemetery in the village of Zarozhne, Chuhuyiv district, Kharkiv region.

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 774/2025 dated 09.10.2025, awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree (posthumously). The award was presented to the family of the fallen defender during a solemn ceremony in the Chuguiv City Council by the Deputy Mayor - Manager of the Executive Committee Lyudmila Makarenko and the Deputy Head of the Chuguiv RTCC and SP Volodymyr Fedotov.
