Teenagers from the Chuhuiv community took part in the Demo Day of the incubation program from the Ko_Laba youth spaces. For three months, the teams worked on finding an idea and looking for ways to implement it. At the final stage in Kyiv, 34 teams from Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv regions presented their projects.
The incubation program is a process and result of the activities of youth spaces to reveal the potential of young people and use all the theoretical knowledge and experience of young people to implement them into concrete solutions.
«We have transferred the experience of a typical incubator for startups to our 12 communities. Ko_Laba has all the capabilities, resources, material and technical base and provides knowledge so that young people can unleash their potential and implement their ideas into real projects, which in the future can become their first commercial project, scientific research. Our goal is to give every teenager the opportunity not only to dream, but also to create. This will become the basis of a technological breakthrough on which the future of Ukraine will be built.», – Head of the ESTEAM department at GoGlobal, Maryna Chernysh.
Five teams from Chuguev presented prototypes:
SMART street lighting control system - this prototype monitors the status of light points, changes the thermal spectrum in the presence of precipitation or fog, detects the presence of objects for which it is necessary to illuminate the route, saves more than 50% in electricity consumption.
Gamepad holder – modeling and manufacturing a stand for gamepads and phones in the form of your favorite characters.
Air quality tracker built on the Arduino Uno platform – the tracker's functionality allows a person to see, analyze, and improve air quality.
Environmental metrics collection system – the system allows you to collect and conveniently analyze environmental information: relative air humidity, air temperature, pressure in mm Hg, which can be used to assess the fluidity of the received data in detail, thus responding to a particular situation in a timely manner.
SMART House is a miniature house that implements the functions of a real house, namely: turning on the light with a clap, opening the door via the console, and the ability to change the color scheme and sound.
The «4Real» team and their SMART street lighting system project won the grand prix of the competition, winning in 2 nominations – «Best Prototype» and «Best Innovative Project». And the «SMART House» project became the winner in the «Best Teamwork» nomination. The teams also received gifts from partners MONO, EPAM Campus, the Educational Initiatives Foundation, the American Council, MHP, CadCam and Inscience in special nominations.
«"Preparations for this event began in the fall, when a team of teenagers and I began work on making a prototype of the "SMART street lighting control system". The guys researched something, compared something, made boards, soldered, modeled, worked tirelessly, devoted a lot of time to it. This united them very much and even inspired them to model, develop and make a prototype for the "SMART House" project almost before the event. This is where the most interesting thing began: the first night in space, the experience of making a board using a microwave, but we still managed to do it."«, – Director of the Chuguiv House of Children's and Youth Creativity Viktoria Miroshnikova.
Demo Day participant Roman Zhalkovsky says that this is not the first time he has participated in such an event, but it was very exciting to present so many projects, especially when he saw the number of participants and invited guests. The guy adds that such an event motivates him to continue working in this direction.
Ko_Laba is the first youth ESTEAM space in Ukraine, created by the GoGlobal educational foundation with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). It is a place where young people can be inspired, learn and prototype their ideas using the necessary equipment, such as a laser cutter, 3D printer, plotter, heat press, etc. The spaces also have VR glasses, board games and books that will help you learn more about entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Currently, 12 such spaces operate in 4 regions - Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Kharkiv.
