In two weeks, 14 residents of Chuguiv region declared found weapons to the police. The police registered 13 firearms and about 1,700 rounds of ammunition.
«"Such firearms are allowed to be used exclusively to protect Ukraine and the Ukrainian people from Russian aggression. After the end of martial law, they will need to be surrendered or kept by converting them into hunting weapons. Law enforcement officers may seize them during the declaration procedure if their owner or involvement in committing criminal offenses is established," explained Yuriy Bludov, head of the weapons circulation control sector of the Chuguiv District Police Department.
«"Ukrainians should be aware that an increase in the number of unregistered weapons in the country can lead to an increase in the number of crimes committed with their use, remember about criminal liability for undeclared firearms and their responsibilities in this context. Therefore, we must cooperate with law enforcement officers in order to create a safe environment in our country through joint efforts," the police officer emphasized.
As a reminder, a law on improving the procedure for obtaining, declaring, and handling firearms came into effect on November 25. According to current legislation, civilians who illegally possess or find firearms, their parts, and ammunition must declare them or voluntarily surrender them to police units.
The procedure for declaring a weapon is quite simple. You need to call 102 and arrive at the nearest police station within 24 hours, submit a written application, passport, identification code, certificate of residence/registration, and a 3.5x4.5 photo.
Hunting and smooth-bore weapons permitted for circulation, as well as combat pistols and assault rifles, are subject to declaration.
