
Born on 05/12/1974 in the city of Chuguiv. All his childhood and youth were spent in the Aviator microdistrict. From the 1st to the 9th grade he studied at secondary school No. 6, and then graduated from Chuguiv Vocational School No. 19 with a degree in turner. After graduating, he worked in the State Security Service, as a security guard at the Elektrotyazhmash plant, and as a builder.
He served in the border troops from 1992 to 1994 as a dog handler with the rank of junior sergeant.


In January 2022, he decided to join the Armed Forces. At that time, the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Battalion was being created in the city of Chuguiv. With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, he began his service in the battalion (military unit A 7291) as a machine gunner of the 3rd rifle division of the 2nd rifle platoon of the 1st rifle company.

Father died, was a participant in hostilities in Afghanistan; mother: Zalunina Galina Mikhailovna, lives in the city of Chuguev, brother: Zalunin Dmitry Anatolyevich, lives in the village of Malinovka.
Circumstances of death:

According to the official investigation report, it was established: on 05.12.2022, between 16.30 and 18.30, the enemy assaulted the platoon stronghold of the rifle company in the area of the settlement of Ploshchanka from the direction of Krasnorichenske, supported by mortars, small arms, collective weapons and heavy equipment. During the fighting, Igor received a wound incompatible with life, "mine and explosive trauma, multiple shrapnel wounds". At the same time, it was not possible to evacuate his body due to the enemy's assault. Thus, soldier Zalunin I. was considered missing. On 28.12.2022, his brother's wife appealed to the Chuguyiv police department with a request to find her husband's brother, who had not been in touch since 02.12.2022. On January 12, 2023, Igor Zalunin's relatives received a notification that soldier I. Zalunin was considered missing. A year and a half later (July 4, 2024), the Chuguev City Court considered the application of the soldier's mother and made a decision to declare Igor Anatolyevich Zalunin dead.
The 12th regional military medical commission on 05.10.2024, protocol No. 3646, recognized that the death of Igor Zalunin was related to the defense of the Motherland. The place of burial is unknown.

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 91/2025 dated February 20, 2025 "On Awarding State Awards of Ukraine", for personal courage shown in protecting the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless performance of military duty, soldier ZALUNIN Igor Anatolyevich was posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" of the 3rd degree.
