Language Law: What Business Entities Should Know

Dear business entities!

We are glad that you are returning to your home community and resuming your business, or continuing your work during this difficult time! Please pay attention to the outdoor advertising placed at your establishments, namely: signs, names of establishments, advertisements on doors and facades, etc. Everything must be exclusively in Ukrainian!

According to Article 32 of the Law of Ukraine «On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language» and Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine «On Advertising», the language of advertising in Ukraine is the state language. These requirements apply to all specified types of advertising, regardless of the method of its placement and content.

Despite the fact that the relevant norm came into effect on January 16, 2020, violations in the field of advertising continue to be recorded today in the territory of the Chuguiv urban territorial community. For example, signs with inscriptions in a non-state language are placed on the facades of restaurants, shops, car repair shops, beauty salons, etc.

WE EMPHASIZE that, in accordance with Article 28 of the Language Law, information for general information, namely:

  • advertisements, in particular those containing a public offer to conclude a contract;
  •  pointers
  •  pointers;
  •  signs;
  •  messages, inscriptions and other publicly posted text, visual and sound information that is used or can be used to inform an unlimited number of persons about goods,

PRESENTED EXCLUSIVELY IN THE STATE LANGUAGE!

Advertisers are responsible for violations of advertising legislation.

The Law provides for penalties for violations of relevant norms by business entities.
